what we’re sipping
orange + cardamom coffee spritz
espresso and fresh orange make an unexpectedly good pairing: bitter, bright, and just sweet enough on their own. cardamom adds warmth without pushing the drink into dessert territory, while sparkling water keeps everything light.
gather:
1 shot espresso, about 2 oz
1 cardamom pod, lightly crushed
2 oz fresh orange juice
3–4 oz chilled sparkling water
orange peel
ice
prepare:
brew the espresso with the crushed cardamom pod.
let steep for 2–3 minutes, then strain and chill.
fill a glass with ice.
add the orange juice and sparkling water.
slowly pour the espresso over the top.
finish with orange peel.
what we’re making
brown butter dates with vanilla ice cream + flaky salt
warm medjool dates turn soft and almost caramel-like in a little brown butter, making this the kind of dessert that feels far more considered than the ingredient list suggests. vanilla ice cream and flaky salt are all it needs.
gather:
4 medjool dates, pitted
2 tsp unsalted butter
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
flaky sea salt
prepare:
brown the butter in a small skillet over medium heat.
add the dates and cook for 2–3 minutes, turning until warm and lightly caramelized.
spoon the dates and brown butter over vanilla ice cream.
finish with flaky sea salt.
