what we’re making
longevity noodles
long noodles — long life.
ingredients
12 oz yi mein noodles
⅛ teaspoon sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon hot water
2 teaspoons regular soy sauce
2 teaspoons dark soy sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
½ teaspoon sesame oil
white pepper to taste
3 – 4 tablespoons avocado oil
5 shiitake mushrooms, thinly sliced
8 oz chinese chives
how to make
boil 3 quarts of water in a large pot. add yi mein noodles and cook 3 – 4 minutes — do not overcook. drain and set aside.
dissolve sugar and salt in 1 tablespoon hot water. stir in soy sauces, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper. set aside.
heat a wok until just smoking. swirl in 2 tablespoons oil around the edges.
add mushrooms and the light green parts of the chives. stir fry about 30 seconds. add more oil if dry.
add noodles — they should be warm with no water dripping. toss gently about 20 seconds.
pour sauce mixture over noodles and stir fry about 1 minute until evenly coated. add a splash of hot water if needed.
gently mix so noodles don’t break. add remaining chives and cook 1 – 3 minutes until bright green and heated through.
plate and serve your long life noodles.
what we’re reading
wild — cheryl strayed
wild is fire horse energy in book form. restless. unsparing. forward moving. cheryl strayed doesn’t tame the chaos — she walks straight through it. grief, instinct, collapse, rebuilding. no polish. no performance. it’s a story about motion as medicine and choosing durability. about starting again before you feel ready.
perfect for a year that favors heat, independence, and the courage to move anyway.
