what we’re wearing

this week, we're drawn to the richness of late-autumn dressing: chocolate-brown wool, softly draped silk, plush velvet, and the occasional unexpected detail. the palette is restrained, but the textures do the talking.

what we’re sipping

green apple martini

a decidedly more grown-up interpretation of the classic appletini. fresh green apple juice, a squeeze of lemon, and a touch of elderflower create something crisp, tart, and delicately floral. best served very cold, in a chilled coupe, with a thin slice of granny smith apple.

gather (serves 1):

  • 2 oz vodka

  • 1 oz fresh-pressed green apple juice

  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice

  • ¼ oz elderflower liqueur

  • 1 thin green apple slice

prepare:

  1. combine vodka, apple juice, lemon juice, and elderflower liqueur in a shaker filled with ice.

  2. shake vigorously until thoroughly chilled, then strain into a coupe or martini glass.

  3. garnish with a thin slice of green apple.

what we’re making

brown butter, honey & pistachio tart

a buttery pastry shell filled with toasted pistachios and golden honey caramel, finished with flaky sea salt. rich, nutty, and beautifully simple, this is the kind of dessert made for an autumn dinner party. serve in thin wedges with a spoonful of crème fraîche.

gather (serves 8):

  • 1 ready-made 9-inch baked tart shell

  • 1½ cups shelled, unsalted pistachios

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter

  • ⅓ cup honey

  • ⅓ cup light brown sugar

  • ⅓ cup heavy cream

  • ½ tsp flaky sea salt

prepare:

  1. preheat oven to 350°f. toast pistachios for 6–8 minutes, until fragrant. roughly chop.

  2. brown butter in a saucepan until golden and nutty, then transfer to a bowl. in the same saucepan, combine honey, brown sugar, and cream. bring to a gentle boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. simmer for 4–5 minutes until slightly thickened, then remove from heat and stir in the brown butter, pistachios, and salt.

  3. pour into the baked tart shell and bake on a baking sheet for approximately 20–25 minutes, until the caramel bubbles across the surface. cool completely before slicing. finish with flaky sea salt.

what we’re reading

uprising — tahmima anam

on a sinking island off the coast of bangladesh, a community of women lives under the control of a ruthless madam, their lives shaped by exploitation, poverty, and the growing threat of climate change. their children narrate the story collectively, imagining a freedom their mothers have been denied.

when kusum khan, an educated young woman from the city, arrives, her refusal to accept the island's rules begins to challenge an entrenched order. what follows is a story of resistance, solidarity, and the difficult transformation of private suffering into collective action.

a finalist for the 2026 orwell prize for political fiction, uprising examines the relationship between power and inequality, and what it takes for those who have been silenced to reclaim their agency. both devastating and hopeful, the novel offers a compelling exploration of resistance and the possibilities of collective action.
