picks vol. 5
a weekly curation of things worth pouring, wearing, and reading — because taste is political, too.
what we’re wearing:
staud’s black draped midi with a crystal-mesh overlay, paired with zara slingbacks and a cherry-red toteme clutch; reiss’ fringe mini with matching red heels and olympia le-tan’s wine & cheese club clutch; and zara’s cream batwing dress with a mango faux-fur pouch and sam edelman pumps. quiet glamour for holiday evenings — all movement, texture, and mood. links — https://www.shopltk.com/explore/theveritasedit/posts/3b418a19-b9f5-11f0-94f4-0242ac110010
what we’re sipping:
cider whiskey sours — a cozy balance of sweet apple and sharp citrus. whiskey, lemon, apple cider, maple, and a whisper of egg white, shaken until frothy and spiced with cinnamon and star anise. it’s autumn in a glass — smoky, soft, and made for slow nights in.
ingredients
2 ounces whiskey
1 ounce apple cider
3/4 ounce lemon juice
1/2 ounce maple syrup
1 egg white
cinnamon, for garnish
star anise, for garnish
how to make
in a cocktail shaker add whiskey, lemon juice, apple cider, maple syrup and egg white
dry shake (shake with no ice) for about 20 seconds
add ice and shake again for about 30 seconds
strain into a glass. garnish and enjoy!
what we’re cooking:
veritas sweater-weather salad — kale (or arugula), honeycrisp apples, shaved parmesan, toasted nuts, and cranberries, tossed in a cider-dijon vinaigrette. sweet, sharp, and earthy. the kind of fall salad that feels like candlelight season: crisp, grounded, a touch sweet.
ingredients (4 servings):
1 small bunch lacinato kale (or arugula for a lighter bite)
1 honeycrisp or pink lady apple, thinly sliced
½ cup shaved parmesan or pecorino
⅓ cup toasted walnuts or pecans
¼ cup dried cranberries or golden raisins
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp dijon mustard
1 tsp honey
salt
black pepper
directions:
remove kale stems and slice leaves into thin ribbons. in a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, vinegar, dijon, honey, salt, and pepper to make a light vinaigrette.
add the kale and massage gently for 30 seconds to soften. toss in apple slices, nuts, cranberries, and cheese. mix until everything glistens and tastes balanced — sweet, sharp, and a little earthy.
what we’re reading:
awake by jen hatmaker — a call to consciousness and self-trust. hatmaker writes with raw tenderness, stepping beyond certainty into curiosity. part memoir, part spiritual awakening, it’s about renewal — the quiet courage of living with eyes open. (the audiobook, narrated by jen herself, is a must.)
